President Ronald Reagan Proclamation 5018 – Year Of The Bible 1983

Proclamation 5018—Year of the Bible

By the President of the United States of America

A Proclamation

In 1983, I, Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim 1983 as the Year of the Bible. I encourage all Americans to study the Holy Scriptures and to reflect on the principles and values contained therein that have shaped our nation.

The Bible has played a fundamental role in our history, providing wisdom, guidance, and inspiration to millions. From the founding of our country to the struggles for freedom, the teachings of the Bible have served as a moral compass and a source of strength.

In this special year, I urge citizens to rediscover the teachings of the Bible, to embrace its message of love and hope, and to apply its teachings in their daily lives. By fostering a deeper connection to scriptural values, we can strengthen our communities and reinforce our collective commitment to justice and compassion.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 20th day of January, in the year of our Lord nineteen hundred and eighty-three, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and seventh.

Ronald Reagan
President of the United States
