“You shall not murder,” (Exodus 20: 13). Most people reading this verse will say obviously; it goes without saying that you should not take anyone’s life. But is God’s deeper meaning really that obvious to you? The Apostle John makes it clear that love for your brothers and sisters is a manifestation of your love for God, “We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love the brethren. He who does not love his brother abides in death. Whoever hates his brother is a murderer,” (1 John 3: 14-15). There are various ways in which one can destroy human life. Murder does not only mean that you snuff out a life by shooting or stabbing. It’s how you feel about someone in your heart. All hatred is murder.
