The promise with strings attached

 “Honour your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you, (Exodus 20: 12). God’s words move from your relationship with Him, to how to relate to others. The parent-child relationship is the most important one because, without them, you would not exist. The relationship with your parents is the first relationship that you build and that is built with you when you come into this world. If you cannot get this relationship right it will be very difficult to get the rest of life’s relationships to work well. However, this is the commandment with strings attached.
