UPDATE: Greece Votes NO to Referendum

1200x1200_euroXgreeceGreek citizens voted NO on the referendum yesterday, with 61.31% voting against the Euro-Zone’s bailout program for the defaulting country.

This does not mean Greece is out of the Euro-Zone just yet, but that the Greek government, along with its residents, chose to refuse the terms of the monetary aid programme offered by Euro-Zone officials and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Another emergency summit regarding Greece’s future status in the European Union will take place tomorrow, Tuesday, July7th, 2015.

Just hours after Greece’s announcement on the referendum, the shock was felt in Asian markets, as Japan’s Nikkei index, Australia’s ASX 200, and S. Korea’s Kospi index, all opened down.

Also this morning, Greece’s finance minister, Yanis Varoufakis, resigned from his post following the referendum.
